On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, 2009, 120 Cleveland middle school and high school students will gather to honor the memory of Dr. King and begin their five-month participation in the Young Heroes and City Heroes programs, City Year's hallmark youth leadership and development programs.
The inspiring Heroes Opening Ceremony will be followed by a day of service, where City Year Young Heroes, City Heroes, Cleveland corps members, families, friends, alumni and corporate partners celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a day of transformative service at multiple Cleveland sites.

Dr. King also believed that, "Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve." City Year Cleveland invites you to be great as we celebrate the life of Dr. King and work alongside our Heroes:

During his "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech delivered on the evening of April 3, 1968, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. asked his audience these two questions:
"If we don't stop to help these children, what will happen to them?"
"If we stop to help these children, what will happen to us?"
Dr. King's questions get to the heart of City Year. One of the important ways City Year corps members share their belief in service and their commitment to helping children is by leading programs that teach elementary, middle school, and high school students about their ability to make a difference in their communities.
