A Year of Full-time Service

As a corps member, you will commit to a minimum of 1,700 hours of service over a 10-month period starting in late August. Service opportunities vary based on the needs of a site or community.

Here are some highlights of a year of service with City Year:

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER

Basic Training Academy – To prepare corps members for their year of service

SEPTEMBER

Opening Day – Officially launches the year of service as corps members begin their work in schools and neighborhoods

JANUARY

Advanced Training Academy – To share best practices and prepare to finish the year strong

FEBRUARY – APRIL

Camp City Year – Organized and led by corps members, these weeklong programs are run during school vacations to give students a safe, structured, positive learning environment while they are not in school

JUNE

cyzygy – City Year’s annual convention brings corps members from across the country and South Africa together for a celebration of their year of service

Graduation – Marks the completion of a successful year of service as corps members officially become proud alumni and leaders for life
