Martin Luther King Jr. believed that, "Anyone can be great, because anyone can serve." On January 19, 2009 City Year invites you to be great as we celebrate the life of Dr. King through inspirational service. The mission of City Year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is to partner with Home Depot, Providence Public Schools, RI Campus Compact, and Rhode Island for Community and Justice in uniting the Rhode Island community for a day of transformational service and to help break down the barriers and social injustices around us.

Please join the celebration at Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence. On the eve of the inauguration of America’s first African American president, Barack Obama, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service 2009 will serve as a vehicle of remembrance. The 2009 class of Young Heroes will also be celebrating the start of their service year by taking part in service.
